Welcome - an Introduction.

Hello & Welcome!  My name is Lindsey and I have fancied doing a blog for ages.  I thought it best to introduce myself ......   dont you hate introductions though?  Remember those when you are new at college, starting a training course or your first day of a new job and the dreaded phrase 'Induction Course' rears its head.  The worst is when they try an 'ice breaker' and say "tell us 3 interesting things about the person sat next to you" and all I did then was have blind panic as I furiously tried to think of three interesting things about me  so I 1 sounded cool, 2 not too much of a try-hard and 3 the kind of person you would want to sit next to.   Who knew how hard that would be as you describe yourself to strangers who you hope will become friends - just like this blog!

When you make the move to London there are lots of things to think about ... where to live; sometimes not where I would like to but where I can afford to!  Landlord strife, commuting, work and the social etiquette of it, as well as social interaction - all worth keeping a blog on I feel!

So what is this blog going to be about?   Well... my life in London.  London is NOT cheap, but Im making the best of it.  When you have money, you dont have the time and when you have the time, you dont have the money - what a conundrum!  Therefore, if I find interesting things to do in London, free or worth the money, I will list it here.  Also, things I am up to, making a living or even just about my life and my Cats, then I will pop it down here too.

Main areas I imagine to be are travel, work, interests and hobbies, my cats, gastronomy, my friends & London attractions - but this is not set in stone.  Whatever I feel like blogging about if I feel its relevant will be duly noted here!

Hopefully you will find it an interesting read and if anyone would like me to review anything in the Greater London area, well, here I am - just message me and depending what it involves, I will get my friends opinions on it too if they come along for the experience!

Thank you for reading this and I hope you come back for more soon.  Please feel free to comment; it would be great to have feedback, even if you dont necessarily agree with what I have said, its always nice to see a different slant on things.

Explore! Blacks Adventure Competition

My first Blogger post is in response to a competition I saw on Twitter!

There were four categories :
  • Wild
  • Fast
  • Panoramic
  • Epic
and the brief was "create a blog post showcasing your entries to the above categories then tweet the link to @Blacks_Online using the hashtag #epicadventures.  How you choose to interpret each category is up to you. Be creative!"

So Tweet I did - @LindseyClark20 as it seemed exciting, interesting & creative (not to mention great prizes).

So what inspired me?

For Wild, I chose a picture of the fires in Kikodi, Tanzania, where they  burn the old crops to enrich the soil for the new crop year.  It seemed hot, smoky, untamed and with so few people to control the fire, somewhat dangerous.  If that isnt wild I dont know what is!  I can see why others may choose animals, but this epitomised the wild for me.  Nature is her own master!

For Fast,  I chose a picture that made me think the opposite!  It was such an extreme opposite it just felt right; bicycles - not the fastest form of transport anyway! - in the snow in Winter in Norfolk, England.  The Snow, the green of the poles and the lights reflecting on the trees made me think of the fields in Spring, a great contrast with the effect of snow actually falling & settling gently and slowly as the picture was taken.

For Panoramic, I chose North Wales.   The picture was taken using a 360 degree panoramic lens so this really fulfilled the spec of panoramic.  The lush myriad of greens, the steps leading down showing the depth of the composition makes this seem as if it could be a Botanic Garden anywhere in the World, but right here in Britain we have beauty on our doorstep so why not showcase that?

Lastly, for Epic, I chose what most may consider a predictable scenario - the Great Wall of China.  But it really is Epic in my eyes - not only because it is one of the Wonders of the World but the way the path meanders off into the mist, seemingly never ending, you cannot help but marvel at the length and wonder at all those who had a part in building this amazing wall.

So they are my personal choices.   I hope you like them and get the chance to experience the views yourself someday!
